The coalition government have pledged to be the greenest ever and have launched their BIG TREE PLANT project as part of their big society plans (we don’t know what that means either!).
It essentially targets urban areas although schemes in towns and villages could potentially be eligible for funding. The detail is still to be announced (so follow our blog for updates), although it is expected to be a % contribution rather than a rate per area as under the existing tree planting grants.
BIG TREE PLANT is a partnership bringing together national tree-planting organisations and local groups, working with Defra and the Forestry Commission to improve quality of life, with trees being the main tool to do this.
There is £4.2 million available to spend over the next four years and there will be two deadlines per year for applications.
