while it is important to make people more aware of biodiversity issues it is also vital that they are given the right advice and guidance in order to ensure that their involvement has the best possible positive impact on the environment. A recent publication by Defra contributes to this debate to encourage people to habe the highest level of concern for the environment and to become actively involved.

We show that, where the theoretical base of sampling is sound, data collected with a simple analytical procedure in mind, can generate far more information than envisaged initially. An example of the compilation of “Biodiversity Quality” indicators is given for a site in the Dutch butterfly monitoring scheme (de Vlinderstichting) and two sites are compared for difference.

Ecosulis entered a staged tender process and was appointed through the Framework for CSM SSSI Invertebrate Assemblage Assessments by Natural England to undertake condition assessment for invertebrate assemblages as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) features across 27 SSSIs around the UK. The contract commenced in April 2012 and is currently ongoing.
