The European Environment Agency (EEA) based in Copenhagen was tasked with setting up a system of indicators that could be used to show progress (or not) towards the 2010 international target (and EU commitment) to reduce the rate of loss of biodiversity and the results of this process and the final indicators are the subject of this report. The Government’s drive towards zero carbon housing took a major step forward with the announcement that from the 1 May 2008 all new homes are to be rated on their green credentials as part of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Details are yet to be finalised; however, what is certain is that amendments to the Conservation (Natural Habitats & c.) Regulations 1994 are due to be implemented from April 2007. This is a very complicated subject but...

English Nature (now Natural England) guidelines for bat mitigation procedures with respect to development have now been published. This accumulated information draws from various statutory (Defra, Local Planning Authorities, etc) and non-statutory (ecological consultants, bat groups, etc) sources...
