In the spirit of remaining at the forefront of emerging practice we have been busy researching pragmatic tools to enable the planning and construction of Green Infrastructure (GI). The work is looking at how best to ensure the design of GI achieves as many ‘environmental wins’ as possible through an integrated approach. The tools we are developing rely on consortia agreement with local hydrologist experts and urban designers to ensure GI delivers multifunctionality, with benefits including surface water management, biodiversity gain/connectivity, public realm and amenity through to non-motorised transportation.
