Biodiversity enhancements within developments are becoming increasingly important, with Local Planning Authorities and BREEAM assessors requesting ecological features to be incorporated within developments, including new builds. Natural England protected species licences also usually require ecological enhancements to be incorporated within the development design. With consideration at the design stage, such features can be easily incoporated at low cost.

Impacts on wildlife through the installation of solar panels is unlikely to have significant impacts on wildlife, but may require careful consideration to ensure they do not cause obstruction or disturbance. The Ecosulis team are happy to lend advice on what surveys are required to ensure that any solar installations fall within current wildlife legislation, as well as offering ideas of how best to accommodate birds and bats within the built environment.

Details are yet to be finalised; however, what is certain is that amendments to the Conservation (Natural Habitats & c.) Regulations 1994 are due to be implemented from April 2007. This is a very complicated subject but...
