In September 2006, Ecosulis was commissioned by Enviros Ltd to undertake works relating to the presence of a population of great crested newts recorded within an emergency water tank on the RAF base at Brize Norton.
As part of proposed works at the base, including extension of runways and taxi pavements and modernisation of buildings, a number of temporary working areas, compounds and associated infrastructure have been created, some of which lie within 30m of the tank containing great crested newts.
As part of these works a licence was gained from Natural England, and mitigation put in place in 2009 to protect the population of great crested newts on the site, this includes on-going works such as pond creation, newt fencing and monitoring at the site.
