Subcontracting to BAM Nuttall on behalf of Hampshire County Council (October 2009 to November 2010).

We were appointed as Environmental Manager for BAM Nuttall in 2009 to ensure that a project as environmentally and publicly sensitive as the BRT scheme was delivered without negative incidents. The scheme was being constructed along a disused railway embankment over a length of 4km and was directly adjacent (on both sides) to residential properties.

Several legal challenges against Hampshire County Council were made throughout the project, particularly in relation to the perceived impact the project had upon bats and other protected species. However, the judge overruled the objections in all instances and works proceeded.

Ecosulis worked with BAM Nuttall and Hampshire County Council to ensure that the project could proceed without major disruptions. Work undertaken by Ecosulis included preparation and implementation of a Construction Environmental Management Plan aimed at managing impacts such as noise, dust, water pollution, trees and protected species.

Work undertaken by Ecosulis included vegetation clearance (trees, scrub and understorey) to enable installation of over 5km of permanent and temporary reptile fencing; reptile capture and relocation; demarcation of Japanese knotweed stands; ecological clerk of works; felling of up to 60 trees with bat potential and holding the badger licence for the site to enable closure of badger setts.
