Ecosulis were commissioned to inform future planning applications, to be submitted in 2009/2010, in relation to the development of a service station and filling area. The site covers 1.9 hectares and comprises semi-improved grassland with rubble piles.

Reptile and bat surveys were undertaken by Ecosulis to assess the presence/absence of reptiles and the suitability of trees to support roosting bats. All six British reptile species were recorded during the surveys, including sand lizard and smooth snake, and the habitats present on site are considered to provide excellent habitat for reptiles. Some trees on site were identified as having high suitability to support roosting bats; however no evidence of roosting bats was recorded.

Following these findings, mitigation proposals have been drafted with regards to trees with high potential to support roosting bats. Consultation with Natural England has been recommended to determine the potential requirement for further reptile surveys to more accurately assess population sizes and to inform future mitigation strategies.
