Case Studies

Ecosulis has provided ecological survey support since May 2004 including surveys for great crested newt (13 ponds), bats and badger. Ecosulis also gave advice to guide infrastructure design to enable accommodation of wildlife bridges/underpasses and contributed to landscape plans. The designs, locations and type of bridges/underpasses were approved under DEFRA licence to ensure favourable conservation status for newts, bats and badger.

Ecosulis countryside management team undertook the following works (under licence where required):

• Tree climbing surveys, destructive searches for bats and erection of bat boxes
• Closure of badger setts and Ecological Clerk of Works
• Installation of great crested newt fencing and pitfall traps
• Installation of wildlife ponds and destructive searches
• Undertaking pitfall trapping and
• Creation of hibernacula and refuges
• Long term monitoring of 13 ponds
