Ecosulis was commissioned to produce an Ecological Management Plan for land at the Newport Biomass Power Plant, which will be managed as an Invertebrate Mitigation Area. The habitat in the mitigation area has been translocated from the proposed development site. The area was also reseeded with mugwort seed to encourage the establishment of this plant for the benefit of the rare woodworm moonshiner beetle.
Prescriptions for the retention, establishment, long-term management and monitoring of the Invertebrate Mitigation Area are included in the Ecological Management Plan. Ecosulis implemented the translocation of this mitigation area in April 2009.
Ecosulis was also required to ensure that the works took account of the extensive stands of Japanese knotweed on site.
