Testimonial
“Blackpool Council commissioned Ecosulis to provide ecological consultancy services for ten of our local school sites as part of the Governments Building Schools for the Future scheme. Ecosulis offer excellent value for money and were able to respond very quickly, while still maintaining a high standard of work. I would highly recommend their Consultancy services and look forward to working with them in the future” (Strategic Asset Management Officer for Blackpool Council).

Our role: Blackpool Council asked Ecosulis to join the beginning of the scheme in order to identify potential ecological constraints to any future developments. Such constraints could be in the form of protected species within the existing school sites, such as bats and great crested newts and invasive species such as Japanese knotweed. Advice on these factors would allow for early consideration of these factors within the planning process so that local, national and international policy in relation to protected species and habitats could be adhered to.

Blackpool Council also required advice on how best to maximise environmental performance under the BREEAM Schools Assessment scheme. BREEAM Schools helps schools and LEAs to set environmental targets for new and refurbished school buildings. It also serves as a useful tool for designers by demonstrating the environmental performance of their designs. Ecosulis was able to provide advice on how best to maximise environmental performance and environmental targets based on present ecological conditions at the schools sites and future recommendations, such as tree planting and safeguarding protected species. Blackpool Council required a very quick turnaround for the project and Ecosulis was able to commit to undertaking all survey work and subsequent reporting within four weeks.
