Our role: The installation of two gas pipelines, a total distance of 5.2km, is proposed for an area currently comprising urban areas, RNAS Yeovilton, arable fields and pasture with associated hedgerow network.
Ecosulis have been involved with the ecological aspects of the site, undertaking surveys of the proposed route and immediate surroundings. Habitat and species diversity within the wider survey area was high. Most of the ecological value was recorded in the wider survey area, and was related to foraging and commuting bats (potentially including lesser horseshoe), badger, water vole and otter, nesting birds (potentially including kingfisher), reptiles, amphibians (potentially including great crested newt) and invertebrates. Following the findings of the survey, mitigation proposals were drafted to minimise impacts on surrounding habitats, for example directional drilling techniques.
