Ecosulis was commissioned by Enviros Ltd on behalf of the Defence Estates to undertake a range of surveys including those in relation to badger, bats, dormouse, otter, water vole, reptiles and an arboricultural survey.
The works were undertaken along the route of a proposed military training tank track that crosses Salisbury Plain Training Area, which consists of an area of chalk downland with scattered woodland of approximately 38,000ha, currently used for military training. The site supports a number of scarce species and contains 19 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, comprising an area of approximately 19,689ha. The site is also of cultural and historical importance and contains a large number of scheduled monuments.
Staff of Ecosulis who are Yellow Card holders are providing ongoing ecological clerk of works support to BAM Nuttall during the construction of the tank track.
