Our role: Ecosulis undertook great crested newt surveys within waterbodies located along the route of a derelict section of the Wiltshire & Berkshire Canal between Purton and Cricklade, north of Swindon in Wiltshire.
Surveys were undertaken to inform plans for the re-instatement of the canal, which is proposed in sections along the entire route. Surveys will also inform a mitigation strategy for the restoration of Hayes Knoll Lock, which was found to contain a small population of great crested newts in 2008.
