The dormouse is fully protected under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010 and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, as amended.
This species is a nocturnal animal found predominantly in deciduous woodland and overgrown hedgerows. It has limited distribution throughout the UK and is mainly found in the south, notably in Devon, Somerset, Sussex and Kent. There are also small populations recorded in the Lake District and Wales.
