Water vole

Water voles are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, as amended and are listed as a priority species in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.

This species is a secretive animal that is typically found burrowing in the banks of watercourses and wetlands. The water vole is found throughout the UK, although it is not common in upland areas or Scotland, and is absent in Ireland.
